Welcome to the Disabled and Neurodivergent Books out in May 2024 list! A huge thank you to Cherri for helping with the alt text descriptions for this post.

Each month I will be taking the books from the main list of 2024 Disabled and Neurodivergent Book and Comic Releases and sharing them with more details. The main list is so long that I can’t add in covers and plot summaries without making it a loading nightmare. Now I get to show these amazing titles in full every month.

Without further ado, here are the Disabled and Neurodivergent Books out in May 2024!

Vivi Conway and the Haunted Quest (Vivi Conway #2)	Lizzie Huxley-Jones
	The gang have been hunting for Isabella for weeks, but there’s no sign of her in the Unlands. They can’t even find the portal through to Annwn. Not You: A Memoir	Megan Harris M.
	Shortly after graduating high school, Megan purposefully conceives a child in one of many failed attempts to secure the acceptance she desperately wants from anyone who would offer. She soon finds herself in a variety of dire straits that includes 12 months in a maternity home and her subsequent surrender to mental illness. It would take the births of three more children to finally find the self-respect necessary to become the responsible mother her children deserved. Not You details the struggles of a single mother who has the task of overcoming the self-loathing that imprisons her inside of one bad choice after another. For the woman who has been mocked and abused, has lost a baby, lost herself, or has lost her community due to decisions she’s felt were necessary, this memoir will appeal to anyone who has had to find the courage to love themselves first.

Gooseberry	Robin Gow
	Robin Gow’s Gooseberry is a moving middle-grade novel about a young nonbinary person searching for family and finding it with a sweet rescue dog. B has lived with so many different foster families and youth programs that they have to invent nicknames for them to keep track. Their parents died in a car accident when they were four, and they’ve been moved around ever since. And even though some foster families don’t really get B or why they haven’t picked a new name yet (though B has been grappling with that for a while), B tries their best to stay positive. They try to keep a list of names that might fit, and they dream of being able to live in a home where they could adopt a dog and teach him all sorts of tricks. So when they meet Gooseberry, they know they have to adopt him and give him a loving home. But training a dog isn’t as easy as B first suspected. Gooseberry is anxious and barely even wants to let B pet him. But the queer couple B is staying with, Eri and Jodie, help them to adopt Gooseberry and start training him. Even when Gooseberry snaps and growls, B doesn’t give up. But is this new home enough to change things for good for B and Gooseberry? Moving, heartwarming, and full of hope, Gooseberry is a friendship story classic in the making!

Happy Death Club: Essays on Death, Grief & Bereavement Across Cultures	Naomi Westerman
	Naomi Westerman was an anthropologist studying death rituals in other cultures, then her entire family died. Death moved from being academic to deeply personal. Encouraging people to think and talk more openly, and break taboos, Happy Death Club explores how death is everywhere in our culture, but grief often isn’t, whether it’s writing horror movies for a living, true crime podcasts, working in the death industry, death peer support groups, and looking to death rituals in other countries.
