Disability Interview with Kathleen

Kathleen has been a friend of mine for a long time and I’m grateful for her volunteering to be the first person to be interviewed as part of the Disability Interview series here at Just Geeking By. Opening up about ones chronic illnesses can be a scary thing, and the aim of this interview series isn’t to face one’s fears but to help others who are facing the same ordeals. To say to those who have the same conditions, or have just been diagnosed that there are people who understand. Please continue reading to learn more about Kathleen’s life and her conditions; myofascial pain syndrome,Read More →

My Word of the Year 2020: Kintsugi

In the most recent years every single World of the Year has had the common theme of change, changing me, and for my word of the year 2020 it’s time for something different. 2019 was a year of healing and perspective for me, of taking much-needed steps to recognise that I have PTSD and have had it for quite a while. It’s been with me since I went through a traumatic experience when I was at my most vulnerable, at a time when I was already traumatised and hurt from years of bullying. The 12 Days of Geeking By Christmas is coming!

It has been a crazy year with so many ups and downs, and my confidence and activity have been all over the place. However, during that time my imagination has been working on overtime and I’ve been cooking up lots of new blog content. Some of you may remember this list I posted to Instagram several months ago teasing you all about what I was plotting – well folks, that was just the tip of the iceberg 😉 Activity has grinded to a halt right now because I’ve been helping my Mother-in-law move and so I’m saving it all up for December and the 12Read More →

Closing a Chapter - Talking about submitting my dissertation & my ME recovery

It’s the 18th August 2019 and a few hours ago I submitted the dissertation for my Information and Library Studies Msc, the final part of the Masters that has taken me over 4 and 1/2 years to complete That wasn’t how I planned for my Masters to go when I started it in September 2015, and when I started to feel ill I could never have imagined that my entire life was about to change so dramatically.  In the years since I’ve searched for answers to that all-important question; why me?? I spoke to other ME suffers who said that their symptoms started after aRead More →

Forced Blog Hiatus - July 2019

As you can probably guess from the title, I’m not a happy bunny right now! July has been a horrible month for us, and the last few weeks have been one problem after the other. The week before last there was flu which triggered a nasty fatigue flare-up, and this week has been a massive heatwave resulting in today’s heatstroke. I had the same thing happen during last year’s heatwave when we were in London. I didn’t think it would be as bad up here, but clearly, my new found heat intolerance thanks to my ME means that I’m going end up like this everyRead More →
