Hello and welcome to day twenty-eight of my Star Wars challenge! For the next 31 days, I’ll be posting once a day with a Star Wars themed post. Some days I’ll be talking about just one thing, other days it’ll be about 5 things based on the prompt of the day.
The challenge is open to everyone and can be completed at any time. I thought that May, being home to May the 4th, sounded like the perfect time. If you’d like to join me this month then please do! You can find all the details over here.
DAY 28 – Costumes
The costumes of Star Wars are one of the many things that help us feel like we’re truly in a galaxy far far away and they only keep getting more elaborate, more spectacular. I started off with the idea of picking just one outfit for each of these characters and then the more I looked the less I could decide because each of these ladies (sorry boys!) have magnificent wardrobes!
Here are 5 Gorgeous Costumes from Star Wars!
Leia has some of the most iconic costumes and hairstyles in the Star Wars universe. She was the first female character surrounded by men, and other than Lando Calrissian, her wardrobe stood out. Despite her various costumes from the Original Trilogy and New Trilogy, I really like this one created for the Princess Leia comic series. It’s a variant of her Hoth costume and was designed especially for the comic.
If we’d just taken Qi’ra’s wardrobe at face value (and not hoped that she would hook up with Han in a fairytale ending) we would have known she was a bad girl from the start. Everything about her wardrobe screams femme fatale and it’s brilliant. Bold colours and statement pieces, she’s not afraid to flaunt what she’s got. I especially love the black dress she wore when she reveals herself to Han on Dryden Vos’ yacht.
I talked about the malicious Queen Trios on day 13 for the villains prompt. She might be a nasty piece of work but her wardrobe is the complete opposite. Partial to white, gold and blue, she is often seen wearing white gowns with blue and gold embellishments. For combat situations she has a magnificent gold and blue set of armour that is completely fitting for a member of royalty.
The lovely Duchess Satine is an incredible leader and has the wardrobe to match. Politics aren’t just about saying and doing the right words, they’re about looking the part and she chooses her outfits just as carefully. Partial to hues of blue and purple, she pairs them up with beautiful accessories to create a stunning affect.
I honestly could have written this whole post all about Padmé’s costumes. They are absolutely gorgeous and I really recommend visiting Fit for a Queen, a fansite dedicated to Padmé’s costumes. That site has so much information, detail and photos and you will get lost it in for a few hours as you learn how the costumes were made, what they were made from, influenced by etc.
Some of my personal favourites are the meadow picnic gown pictured above, her black dinner dress and the villa retreat dress from Attack of the Clones, along with her aqua nightgown from Revenge of the Sith.
Over To You
There are so many levels to the costumes in Star Wars and I feel that I’ve just barely scraped the surface with them here. To cover all of them I’d need to do a week’s (or more) worth of posts with each one dedicated to an individual type of costumes. Jedi and Sith costumes alone would take a while!
What is your favourite Star Wars costume?
