The first week of June brings us an apt topic for what is happening in the world right now. As people are fighting for equality and to end hate, this week’s topic of warriors was inspired another time when faced with fascism. On June 6th 1944 the allied forces landed on the beaches of Normandy for the battle which would lead to the of the War.

Seriously Geeky Sundays is a brand new weekly geeky prompt starting today. If you’re new then head over to the SGS information page to learn everything you need to know.

At the end of this post is a link-up for you to pop a link to your own answers into it.

My answers for week #10

Seriously Geeky Sundays Week 10 - What is the most pivotal fictional battle you can think of?

What is the most pivotal fictional battle you can think of?

There are a lot of big battles in World of Warcraft, many of which changed the entire world. I almost chose the final battle with the Burning Legion which led to Sargeras impaling Azeroth with his sword. However, I think the first battle on the Broken Shore in the pre-expansion events for Legion was the most pivotal battle.

In that battle, we lost two faction leaders, gained two new ones, and the rift between Alliance and the Horde began to open. We now know that there was more to Sylvanas being appointed leader of the Horde than simply the wishes of a dying troll. We won’t get answers until Shadowlands, but for now we know that something happened there, something began that day on the Broken Shore and we’re still feeling the repercussions of it.

Seriously Geeky Sundays Week 10 - Who is your favourite warrior?

Who is your favourite warrior?

Oh this was a hard one! I had a few other names in mind, however, I consider them to be fighters rather than warriors. That means the honour of favourite warrior for me goes to Alanna of Trebond, aka Alanna the Lioness. She has a bunch of other names and titles, however, as she is most likely going to be a character in the upcoming Tortall TV series I’ll leave them out so you can learn them as you follow her story 😉

She is the protagonist of the Song of the Lioness quartet which follows her as she begins her training as a page, beginning the long journey to become a Knight. The problem is that girls aren’t allowed to become Knights, they’re supposed to be proper ladies, maybe even mages. When Alanna and her twin brother are sent away to learn to be a mage and knight, the pair swap places. Alanna hates magic, that’s always been Thom’s dream, and he’s never wanted to be a Knight.

Alanna is headstrong, stubborn, loyal and has a furious temper, and to be perfectly honest, she just plain kicks ass. Beginning with Alanna the First Adventure, the Song of the Lioness quartet follows her journey from childhood to adulthood and like any hero’s journey it never goes smoothly. She faces a lot of battles, not just on the battlefield, and sometimes she loses, hard. But she always gets back up, and she fights for what she believes in.

Seriously Geeky Sundays Week 10 - Is there a fictional warrior class do you admire?

Is there a fictional warrior class that you admire?

C’mon, you knew these guys would be on here somewhere 😉 Even with all their faults (I’m not a big fan of ripping kids away from their family, for one) I admire the Jedi Order. It takes a lot of guts to do what they do, to walk into the darkest places of the galaxy or a hostile situation and have faith in the Force that you’ll be able to help. To believe that that things can be better, that people can resolve their differences. Before the Jedi were turned into a martial force they were Peacekeepers and that’s what they did most of the time.

Seriously Geeky Sundays Week 10 - What is your favourite quote about battles?

What is your favourite quote about battles?

“To ask why we fight… is to ask why the leaves fall. It is in their nature. Perhaps, there is a better question. Why do we fight? To protect Home and Family… To preserve Balance, and bring Harmony. For my kind, the true question is: What is worth fighting for?”

Chen Stormstout

I got shivers the first time I heard this quote and I still get them every single time I read it. I feel like so many World of Warcraft missed the many lessons that Mists of Pandaria had, including this one. Seriously Geeky Sundays Week 10 - If you could join a fictional fighting organisation what would it be?

If you could join a fictional fighting organisation what would it be?

I’ve always been partial to the organisations that stay in the shadows and work with secrets and knowledge. The Order of Whispers in Guild Wars 2 is an ancient secretive order that exists to stop the Elder Dragons. Its members are made up of thieves, spies and agents, and it is much more than just a spy network. They are always actively running operations, working towards their goal of putting the Elder Dragons back to sleep because they believe that there is no way to destroy or negotiate with them. So they are focused on doing what they do best; finding that secret.

Seriously Geeky Sundays Week 10 - You’re able to learn one battle ability or spell for a day; what would it be?

You’re able to learn one battle ability or spell for a day; what would it be?

Any healing spell. I would spend the day offering pain relief and respite to as many people as I could, and if possible healing chronic and terminal conditions.

  1. Yes, the Jedi Order! I’ve always liked the Order of Whispers from GW2 too. I may have to log back into that game now…such fun times!

    1. Author

I enjoyed the plots of the other two, but the Order of Whispers was just always more fun. I think it was because of Tybalt; he was just such a great NPC in comparison to the other Orders representatives.
