Hello everyone and welcome back to Just Geeking By for this week’s theme of Funny Guys. Laughter is good for the soul and this year it’s something we’re all in dire need of, especially right now if you’ve been in the middle of this heatwave too! I’m calling a time out from everything for a moment as we indulge in some funny business with this week’s prompt.
Normally on the third Sunday of each month I’d be handing you all the next month’s set of themes. For those who don’t follow me on twitter and instagram, I’ve had a rough few weeks of flare ups and currently have a badly injured wrist. Rather than push myself I’m giving myself an extra week as August graciously has an extra week in it.
Please remember to drop your link in the link-up at the end of the post. This is so other participants and readers can read your answers 🙂 Take a moment to check out the other links listed there too and read some of the fantastic answers by other Seriously Geeky Sundays participants!
Seriously Geeky Sundays is a weekly geeky prompt that started in April 2020. If you’re new then please head over to the SGS information page to find out more!
My answers for week #20
What makes you laugh?
I don’t like humour for the sake of being silly. Slapstick doesn’t do it for me, nor does the brash silly humour of actors like Adam Sandler and Amy Schumer that has risen from the 00s. If you want to make me laugh there needs to be something more to it, something witty or something that catches me off guard. I really respond to spontaneous events where something is happening, plodding along and then it suddenly changes.
What TV show makes you laugh?
While I’m a big fan of old British comedy shows such as Blackadder, I prefer shows that merge comedy with other genres. The show that makes me laugh the most right now is DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. It is a completely wild ride every single episode. None of it should work, it’s so absurd and yet it’s the perfect mix of being totally wrong and being just right. I absolutely love it and even the sad episodes, the heartbreaking ones, will have me in stitches at some point.
What is your favourite comedy movie?
The Pink Panther, the original one starring Peter Sellers, is my favourite comedy movie. I’m not usually a big fan of classic movies but this one has a charm to it that just can’t be reproduced. I’ve not seen the remake, I don’t ever intend to; there can only be one Inspector Clouseau.
What scene always makes you crack up?
The chicken dance scene in Lethal Weapon 4 and the corresponding scene that takes place later in the police station.
Riggs convinces Murtagh that the only way to distract the guy with the flamethrower is for him to get naked and dance like a chicken. So off Murtagh goes.
It makes the newspapers and months later someone is still sticking up a photo of Murtagh up in the police station. It’s really upsetting him and he tells everyone to cut it out. Riggs backs him up, agreeing that it has been going on for so long – only to tape the photo back up as soon as his partner’s back is turned 😀
Who is your favourite funny guy/girl?
Chris Barrie is my favourite funny guy. He plays Rimmer and Ace Rimmer in the British comedy show Red Dwarf, and he also played Lara Croft’s butler in Tomb Raider across from Angelina Jolie. He did an absolutely smashing job in that role and he’s a lovely chap in real life too.
Who is your favourite comedian?
My favourite comedian is Glasgow’s very own Billy Connolly. I loved him long before I moved to the city, and the love that this city has for him is so beautiful. He is a national treasure and as well as being absolutely hilarious he’s also a wonderful person. If you’ve not heard of him or checked him out then I recommend doing so. Not just his comedy routines but also his documentaries such as Billy Connolly: Journey to the Edge of the World.
