Hello everyone and welcome to day 26 of my 30 Day World of Warcraft Challenge that is counting down the days to the release of Shadowlands! Every day in November I will be posting about World of Warcraft based on the prompt list below. Today’s prompt is ‘mount’ and I’m sharing the five mounts at the top of my wish list!
I’d love for you to join me in my countdown to Shadowlands and you can do so in any way you wish. I wanted this challenge to be open to all players whether they be raiders, casual, new to the game or veterans. It’s also completely open to interpretation as to how you respond to the challenge; write it, draw it, vlog it, post it on social media, whatever works for you.
Day 26 – Mount
Shadowlands is now live and with it comes a bunch of gorgeous new mounts to collect! I considered writing about them but I didn’t want to spoil anything for players who like to discover things on their own. Instead, I thought it would be nice to look back at the mounts from other expansions that I’m still chasing. These mounts refuse to drop and I’m still hunting for them. Counting down to the one at the top of my list, in 5th place is…
“The Storm Peaks! There we will find the beast strong enough to bear me into battle. -Skadi the Ruthless.”
If you heard me mention the name Skadi over the last weeks on Skadi it’s because of this mount. During the Shadowlands pre-launch event bosses from Wrath of the Lich King dungeons were out in Icecrown for a one-off event and Skadi was still dropping the Blue Proto-Drake mount. Normally you can kill him once a day per character, due to the event you had a chance of killing him ever 3.5-7 hours.
I’ve been trying to get the item to drop for years. I go through phases of farming it every day for months at a time and then I get fed up and stop. After finally getting item to drop from Slabhide during a Timewalking dungeon I had decided to start farming this one again next. Then the pre-event happened and it gave me a chance to do it again. Sadly, no luck. I’ll let Shadowlands fun settle down and get back to it again.
Thundering Cobalt Cloud Serpent
“This is a descendant of the irascible Nalak. Lightning erupts from its scales and arcs over the saddle. Dare you sit?”
I’ve been farming the Mists of Pandaria world bosses for a while now, and out of all of them, the Thundering Cobalt Cloud Serpent (item) is at the top of my list. The Heavenly Onyx Cloud Serpent (item) from the Sha of Anger was probably number 6 or 7 on my mount wish list before Shadowlands. I really like cloud serpents, and particularly the thundering ones. I’d love to have the Thundering Ruby Cloud Serpent from Alani too (item) but that one I can just farm. It’s not up to random drop chance and I have been slowly collecting the shards over the years (I have 4 now).
“After Alleria and Turalyon explained the usefulness of the Draenei’s long-time companion animal, the Army of the Light brought several into the fold for training.”
The Glorious Felcrusher mount is so close to the top of my wish list because it is the only one I need from the Army of the Light paragon box now. I had great luck with the other two felcrusher mounts, however, item is being extremely stubborn and refusing to join its fellows. It’s beginning to get really annoying!
Big Love Rocket
“Apothecary Hummel painted this masterpiece bright pink for an unrequited love.”
This mount is the bane of my existence. It is probably the mount that has the lowest drop rate in the game, and every time the Love is in the Air event comes around I log on every single character every day to try to get the item to drop. I now have 18 characters that I can do the event on.
This year I got completely burnt out from doing it and I didn’t have that many. This is where my desire to collect things in games stops being a hobby and slides dangerously towards compulsion. At least I am aware of it and will hopefully be better prepared for the effect farming this mount has one me next time.
Ashes of Al’ar
“Al’ar was the beloved pet of Kael’thas Sunstrider, who often boasted that death would never claim it. Perhaps he was right.”
I doubt anyone is surprised that this is at the top of the list. The gorgeous item has been at the top of my wish list ever since it was first announced. I even made a deal many years ago with my fiance sacrificing pets to him in exchange for getting this if it dropped when we were farming Tempest Keep. I honestly should run it more often, but like Skadi, I get bored of doing so. Although considering my history with Kael’thas dropping mounts (he took forever to drop item!) I should probably get right on that if I ever want to see Ashes of Al’ar!
Over to You
Some people might be surprised to find that Invincible didn’t make my top five. I like the mount and would like it, it’s just not that high on my priority list at the moment. I see people with it and I’m like ‘nice, lucky them’, whereas when I see someone with Ashes of Al’ar or (especially) the Big Love Rocket I feel that wee twinge of jealousy.
How about you; which mount is at the top of your wish list?
Next up tomorrow I’m continuing on the collection trend with toys! I’ve never actually talked about World of Warcraft toys before so this is going to be an interesting one for me. See what I’ve come up with by checking back tomorrow 🙂
What will day 30 be?!
Day 30 is a freebie and my choice of topic, however, I can’t decide! I need your help narrowing down my options so I’m putting my four options up for a vote in polls over on Twitter.
Last week’s winner with a unanimous 5 votes against 0 was ‘my favourite WoW books and comics’. The final poll is now up and it is up against the winner from week one which was ‘Shadowlands Glow-Up appearances’.
Only you can decide which one of these themes I end up talking about for my final topic. So head on over to Twitter and cast your vote now!
