Hi everyone! I just wanted to give you a little blog update before September comes along about some upcoming blog schedule changes. Most of these are temporary for September, but one of these is permanent which I’m going to talk about first.
When I came back from hiatus in February I had a load of ideas and no plan. It quickly became evident that I was burning myself out because I wasn’t planning things properly or scheduling posts. With the help of my partner I’ve been sticking to a blog work routine and posting schedule. It’s been much healthier for me, and it means you, my audience, get regular and reliable content.
The problem with that was that I’d chosen several big content ideas, two of which were based on a twelve-month cycle; Birthstones and Zodiac. I’m “tied” into them for a year, apart from, I’m not. I make the decisions when it comes to my blog and for the last six months the personality has slowly drained from it. I want, and I need to put some of me back into my blog, and after looking at my blog stats I’m afraid as of last month the Zodiac series has been retired once again. Permanently this time, it won’t be returning. I don’t have the time or energy to put the huge amount of work into something that no one is even reading.
I’m sorry if that means I’m missing your Zodiac sign; I’m missing mine as well! The Zodiac series page has links to my RedBubble and Etsy shopping lists, and Pinterest boards for all Zodiac signs including the ones I didn’t get to complete style guides for. I will be adding items to all of these when I see them for anyone who did follow this series and wanted to see items for their Zodiac sign.
The Birthstones series is getting read, and people are looking at past months as well, so I will be following that to its conclusion in January.
Temporary schedule changes
Last September I founded GeekDis, an event to create awareness about disability presentation from the perspective of the people if affects the most; the disabled community. The event went better than I expected and when it finished people asked me if it was going to happen again, and there was no way I was going to say no!
There is going to be a lot more content coming this year for GeekDis and as a result I have chosen to change my blog schedule for September, so I do not become overloaded with work. I can’t schedule some of my content too far in advance because otherwise by the time the style and product guides go live the products may be out of/low in stock which is of no use to anyone viewing them.
So for September there will be no:
- Geek on the Web – I mentioned in July’s post that this series was taking a break until October.
- Top 10 Nail Polishes
- Birthstone Series – I hesitated with this because I dislike the idea of postponing this one, however, it makes no sense to pause everything else and continue this one series just for the sake of continuity. I will post both Sapphire and Opal in October.
I hope that those of you sad about this will enjoy the GeekDis content that will be posted instead throughout September. I will be continuing to post book reviews with a focus on books with disability representation, and there will also be competitions as well.
