I can’t believe it’s time for my June 2024 wrap-up already! June was one of those months filled with a lot of small wins and fun moments rather than something big happening. Find out more below!

After feeling like crap for most of last month, it was nice to fall back into a routine for June, even if my normal routine isn’t great fun. The weather in Scotland is always unpredictable, however, this summer it feels like it’s even more unpredictable. Hot and sunny one moment, raining and cold the next. Rain in the summer isn’t unusual, but the temperature dropping as low as it has been is odd. The weird temperatures and the constant changes in pressure have been playing havoc with my migraines.

Other than that, the only health news to report is that my menstrual cycle still hasn’t sorted itself out. I had an appointment with my nurse booked, but I had to cancel it due to, you guessed it, a migraine.

As usual, my monthly post highlighting books with Disabled and Neurodivergent representation went live.

Behind the scenes, a lot of things were happening; it was time for old content to be removed. It’s been bothering me for a while that I had a bunch of product and style guides with outdated product links. I kept putting it off, saying I’d find time, and we all know how well that works out. I just had to dive right in. It was one of those things that once I started, I got into the swing of things, and it didn’t take me that long to do.

Even though I was removing content that I had put hours and hours of work into, it felt so good once it was done!

June 2024 was a busy month in Final Fantasy XIV for us. As mentioned in May’s update, we were working towards reaching level 100 in The Palace of the Dead for the Moogle event – we did it! As I discussed last month, it’s something that takes a huge amount of concentration, so it’s particularly tricky for me with brain fog. But we got there, and it has an engrossing storyline along with it because everything in Final Fantasy has a storyline attached. That’s something I love about it.

I got everything I wanted for the Moogle event again. The new changes they implemented make it so much more accessible for me as a disabled player. Every time, I usually have a few items that are extras; they’d be nice to have but aren’t super important. This time it was a parasol and a pair of fun earrings. By the time the event was nearing the end, I just couldn’t be bothered to grind the last seven tokens I needed for the parasol and the earrings were one hundred tokens, so that was only going to be if I ended up having loads left over. It was probably a good thing I didn’t get them because I didn’t have room for them!

The Moogle events have enabled us both to gradually collect mounts that drop from difficult raids, namely the Lanners (giant eagles) and Kamuy (giant wolves). Now that we only needed a few each, we decided to farm them and finish the collection because once you’ve collected all of them you unlock a quest for another mount. Thankfully the drop rates are a LOT kinder than in World of Warcraft and the only tricky part was the mechanics of one fight.

You can see all the colours of the Lanners in the screenshot above, including the Firebird mount players receive for collecting all of them. I only have four Kamuys so it will be a while before I complete that collection.

I also finally completed the final role quest, tank, for Endwalker. I had some difficulty with it because I don’t have much experience playing tanks, and it turned out I was pressing the wrong button /facepalm After that I got it done with relative ease.

The new expansion, Dawntrail, was released towards the end of the month. We had early access, however, neither of us was anywhere near finished with the post-Endwalker main story quest, and we didn’t try to be. Chris worked his ass off making us 640 gear for each class, including crafting and for our retainers, and I continued levelling up my characters via beast tribe quests.

Usually, I take note of my class levels at the end of the month, however, due to the new expansion I took one before early access started as well. I didn’t quite manage to get all my classes to 90. A few were way off still, as you can see, but a few were very close and that was good enough for me. When Endwalker came out it was a completely different story with only one or two characters at the level cap. I can definitely be satisfied with these numbers.

Class levels before Dawntrail early access:

• Paladin from 73 to 76.
• Warrior from 73 to 76.
• Astrologian from 80 to 88.

At the end of June 2024:

• Paladin from 76 to 77.
• Reaper from 80 to 81.
• Astrologian from 88 to 90.
• Red Mage from 89 to 90.

I didn’t watch any movies in June 2024, however, my TV shows were a lot more varied. First on my list was No Offence, a British dramedy that put a whole new spin on the police procedural genre. It’s set in Manchester and was bloody brilliant. It is outrageous and offensive but uses humour to deal with some serious issues in a frank way.

Impressed by No Offence, I decided to check out another show by its creator Paul Abbott, which I had previously dismissed as it broke my one-season rule (it was cancelled after one season). Wolfe is about a crime scene investigator who is recovering from a psychological break and his quirky team. It was ok, I can see why it was cancelled though.

I was in a bit of limbo after that and randomly decided to watch the Rebus reboot. I’ve never watched the original, and not quite sure what I thought about it. I didn’t dislike it, but I also didn’t love it either.

Other shows I watched in June 2024 were:

• Season 3 of The Sister Boniface Mysteries saved me from worrying about what to watch next, although it was over all too soon. It had a fabulous Doctor Who rip-off episode this season.
• I’ve been enjoying Doctor Who Season 1, although I didn’t watch the final episode as I caught up the week before it aired, so still need to watch that.
• I’ve been meaning to finish Season 2 of From for a while now and finally did this month.
• Criminal Minds: Evolution is back for a new season, and I’m not sure what I think of it… I would have been happy if they had left Voight behind and moved on.
• The Equalizer is finally back for Season 4 in the UK, and while I’ve been enjoying it due to the writer’s strike it’s a short season like many shows. It feels like it would have benefited from more episodes but c’est la vie.

Years ago, we watched all of Stargate SG-1 and the movies. We started Stargate Atlantis but stopped during Season 1 on Episode 19. I’ve been meaning to get back to it, and I knew that once I did, I’d be hooked again. I binged all five seasons and moved on to Stargate Universe. It was quite a bit different from the other two seasons, and there were times when I thought I might not get through it. I did finish it though, and urgh! They cancelled it at such an awkward point!

At least when they cancelled Stargate Atlantis, they smoothed the ending over. I found out that they continued the SGU story in the comics, so I’ll check that out when I get a free moment!

So many seasons of TV shows ended in June, and at the moment my current TV schedule looks very empty.

• S.W.A.T. – Season 7 – This season was so odd because it was supposed to be the final season and then the show was renewed for one more. They did a great job of tying up all the character’s stories, but they did it so well that I’m not sure they left enough for the last season.
• FBI – Season 6 – The original FBI show is lagging behind the other two for me. I’m finding some of the characters to be complete hypocrites, but I’ll probably stick with it.
• FBI: Most Wanted – Season 5 – I talked about my shock at one of the main cast being replaced when the season started, and while I missed the character, I liked the replacement. It was a good season, just so short.
• FBI: International – Season 3 – There were so many changes this season, and I’m not quite sure what the show is going to be like next season because of it. I don’t think the showmakers know because the writers’ strike resulted in them not replacing a major character this season.
• NCIS – Season 21 – I’m beginning to feel that NCIS has been going on for too long now.
• NCIS: Hawai’i – Season 3 – I don’t know why CBS cancelled this show, but they have a habit of doing it, and they always leave the last episode on a cliffhanger. This one at least was a soft cliffhanger. What bothers me more is they’ve cancelled the only show in the franchise that had an LGBTQIA+ couple, and are giving an abusive prick a show of his own.
• Tracker – Season 1 – I loved this show, and it got even better when Jensen Ackles joined as the main character’s brother. He essentially plays Dean from Supernatural but without any of Dean’s charisma, and it’s written in a way that the show’s writers did it on purpose. As if they knew he would be typecast if he played an elder brother again and just decided to roll with it. It is hilarious.
• Murdoch Mysteries – Season 17 – I binge-watched this entire show last year and enjoyed it a lot. This season just didn’t feel as good, and I’m not sure why. The musical episode was amazing, but overall the season just didn’t feel cohesive. The ending left a lot of things up on the air so… who knows.

The only big thing of note this month is that we got our tickets for Glasgow 2024 WorldCon! I’ve been hoping to go since it was announced that Glasgow won the bid several years ago because having the WorldCon come to your city is a once-in-a-lifetime event. It also means that it’s much more accessible for us as we can go home whenever needed and no travel arrangements are required.

It’s a massive event that lasts for FIVE DAYS and I’m so excited to finally meet so many people I’ve been chatting to for years. The programme sampler was recently announced, and it looks amazing. There’s a disability representation panel! I danced when I saw that!

I’m not planning to be there officially; I haven’t applied for a press badge. I will give a general update when it’s all done and be tweeting here and there, but I just want to relax and have fun as it will be a lot for me to deal with physically.
