Hello and welcome to day twenty of my Star Wars challenge! For the next 31 days, I’ll be posting once a day with a Star Wars themed post. Some days I’ll be talking about just one thing, other days it’ll be about 5 things based on the prompt of the day.
The challenge is open to everyone and can be completed at any time. I thought that May, being home to May the 4th, sounded like the perfect time. If you’d like to join me this month then please do! You can find all the details over here.
DAY 20 – Places
Yesterday I talked about planets and today’s prompt is places, and so I’ve narrowed it down to my favourite locations in the Star Wars universe. Not to be confused with filming locations, these are iconic places that exist in a galaxy far far away.
What makes these 5 Star Wars locations so special? Let’s find out.
Great Temple on Yavin 4
“These temples were built by the Massassi race thousands of years ago, and they’re still standing. Hard to believe.“
Used as a Rebel base in A New Hope the Great Temple on Yavin 4 was originally created by the Massassi race, a race enslaved by the Sith and brought to the moon to build their temples thousands of years ago. Even though it’s just a bunch of ruins the Temple is steeped in Sith history and Rebel history and it’s still an incredible archaeological sight to behold.
Cathedral of the Winds on Vortex
“While the Cathedral is gone, this is not forever. We will rebuild, and this will be our sole purpose until we can once again play our concert in peace.“
I couldn’t remember the name of this place and had to hunt for the exact details, but I remember reading the initial description of it in The New Jedi Order: Dark Tide II: Ruin and thinking how incredibly beautiful it sounded. The planet Vortex is home to the Vors and is known for its violent weather, particularly it’s high winds. This intricate structure was made of delicate materials so that it would resonate with the winds.
Once a year the Vors held the Concert of Winds to celebrate the change of seasons. They would use their own bodies to cover areas of the structure, stopping the wind from rushing through that part of the Cathedral. The music they created was known galaxy-wide for its beauty and as the Vors did not allow the concert to be recorded it was a unique experience that could only be witnessed in person.
Not only did the Cathedral sound like an amazing structure to behold, described as fascinating and ethereal structure, but its dual nature as an instrument makes it even more incredible and something I would love to see for myself.
Fortress Vader on Mustafar
“Few people have the honor of seeing Lord Vader in his sanctum. I suggest you keep all you witnessed to yourself.“
Let’s be honest, who didn’t want to know what Vader kept in his fortress when it was revealed he had one on Mustafar in Rogue One? I can’t be the only one who’s intrigued by it, especially after having his encounter with Momin in Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith.
Shrine of Healing on Voss
“While many visitors to Voss seek guidance from the Mystic visionaries, a few desperate pilgrims come to risk the treacherous road to the Shrine of Healing.“
The Shrine of Healing on Voss has always fascinated me. It’s not just your average shrine, and like everything on Voss it’s much more than it appears. Under one roof you can find something akin to a hospice, monastery, retreat and archive merged into one. Here mystics and outsiders can also complete The Trials, tests of faith and duty, that are held with high regard in Voss society.
The building is huge and absolutely beautiful with walls of innate carved stone. There is so much to learn, to see, to feel here, and there’s even a Holocron that sits unguarded in the middle of the Shrine. It’s just one of those places that I feel drawn to, and if it was real I would need to visit.
Jedi Archives, Jedi Temple on Coruscant
“There is more knowledge here than anywhere else in the galaxy.“
I have a Masters degree in Library studies, and as Jocasta Nu states the Jedi Archives is home to the biggest collection of knowledge in the galaxy. I could quite happily get lost in there for a very long time. It’s also perfectly organised and easy to access thanks to technology and being under the care of the Council of First Knowledge.
Over To You
A few that didn’t make the cut were; The rets of the Jedi Temple, Kachirho on Kashyyk, and Coral City on Dac (Mon Cala).
