2022 was a bad year for me. I lost myself a lot last year and as a result my blog suffered, and that is all the detail I’m going to go into. But 2023 is here, and it’s a fresh year, to help me find my way again I’m doing something I haven’t felt necessary in years; setting myself goals.
I’m not a fan of new year resolutions, hence the setting of goals rather than resolutions. I feel that resolutions have an enormous weight placed on them, while goals are more attainable especially for me with my disabilities. I also prefer to make my goals flexible, whereas resolutions always feel like they must be set in stone to me.
Along with my goals for 2023 I’m also introducing you to updates and changes to my blog that I am making this year. Read on to find out more!
2023 Goals
Here are my goals for 2023 in no particular order:
- To believe in myself again and reach toward new possibilities this year. I have no idea what they may be, but it’s time to throw my hat in the ring again, so to speak, rather than hesitate.
- I need to look after myself better and get back into some routines.
- I want to stop defending my actions and opinions to other people (unless I’m doing something harmful), especially to trolls and other toxic individuals who I give too much of my energy too.
- Speak up more about disability and neurodivergent awareness, especially accessibility such as using alt text on social media.
- Keep to my sleep schedule and my blog work schedule, but find a better way to balance my free time, so I can utilise it better.
- Get back in touch with my creative side more in 2023; work on my digital art, my writing and learn calligraphy.
- I want to start using makeup more often and share what I do online.
- Over the last few years the amount of movies I’ve watched has dwindled with each passing year. I want to aim to watch at least one movie a week.
- Watch TV shows when they come out, so I don’t keep ending up years behind and finish off the shows that I’ve already started instead of ignoring them! To help do this I’m no longer watching TV shows that have been cancelled after one season unless I feel extremely drawn to them for one reason or another.
- It feels like it’s time to start trying to play more games again, however, I’m not going to set any specific goal for this one, and I’m just going to see where my interests take me.
- I want to read more books by indie authors, and while I try to read diversely, I do feel that there can be even more improvement made in that area. So I want to pay more attention to what books I’m reading and read more widely in the areas I’ve been unintentionally neglecting.
- Be stricter about DNf-ing (did not finish) the ARCs that I’m not enjoying so that I can spend more time reading the books that I enjoy.

Blog changes for 2023
By the end of 2022 I wasn’t happy with the direction I’d gone with my blog last year. I tried something different and quite frankly, it didn’t work. I wasn’t feeling myself, and it showed in my content. I appreciate those of you who have stuck with me as I find my feet again. Here are my plans for my blog this year:
- I’ll be sticking to my schedule as it works, I’ll just be switching up the content which means there will continue to be two book reviews each week on a Wednesday and a Thursday.
- I’ll be doing less product based posts. I’m keeping Geek on the Internet each month and my top nail polishes at the start of the month, however, I’ll be cutting down the nail polishes from ten to six.
- I want to start getting back to more personal content, so I’m going to start working on a list of ideas, requests, suggests etc. of topics for things that people have asked me to talk about over the last few years. Hopefully this will be once a month, but these take more energy, so I’m not going to force myself to do these every month just for the sake of it being done.
- I miss doing fun stuff like tags and memes, so I’m planning to join in a weekly book meme and start doing tags more often. Once you see me back blogging regularly again I’d love to be tagged for things!
- I want to do more to promote disability and neurodivergent representation. I’ve made a big start with this by posting a master list of Disability and Neurodivergent books and comics out in 2023. I’m going to keep this updated throughout the year as well as with quarterly posts announcing the books and comics with Disabled and Neurodivergent representation due out in the next four months.
- I’ve also decided to move GeekDis, the annual event I’ve run for the past two years about disability representation, from September to July from 2023. Originally I chose September to avoid clashing with Disability Pride Month in July and other disability events in following months. Last year I realised that was a mistake for several reasons. In July many non-disabled people and companies were recommending products, especially books, with representation that was terrible. By the time September came around no one wanted to talk about disability representation; disability pride month was long forgotten! I feel that GeekDis has established itself well enough now as an event to not feel that I’m encroaching on another event to try to promote it or something else untoward. I also feel more confident in myself to defend against anyone who does accuse me of such things.
Over to you
This ended up being a lot longer than I planned, but I don’t feel that anything is out of reach or that I’m trying to do too much. A lot of this is me just admitting things that have been on my mind for a while now and putting them down on paper. In some ways, doing this feels like I am fully accepting them, I am giving myself permission to do it, that it is acceptable to do it.
How about you? Do you do resolutions, goals or something to mark the new year? Feel free to drop a blog link if you’ve done a post too! I’d love to check it out 🙂
