Hello everyone and welcome to day 27 of my 30 Day World of Warcraft Challenge that is counting down the days to the release of Shadowlands! Every day in November I will be posting about World of Warcraft based on the prompt list below. Today’s prompt is ‘toy’ and I’m talking about Three World of Warcraft toys that I enjoy and three that I despise.

I’d love for you to join me in my countdown to Shadowlands and you can do so in any way you wish. I wanted this challenge to be open to all players whether they be raiders, casual, new to the game or veterans. It’s also completely open to interpretation as to how you respond to the challenge; write it, draw it, vlog it, post it on social media, whatever works for you.

Day 27 – Toy

The title of this post may sound a little extreme, ‘three that I despise’, and I admit there is a touch of artist licence there. The sentiment isn’t that far off though. While I don’t rank toys as highly as pets, mounts or transmogs, I do like toys in World of Warcraft. They are fun reminders of quests and past events, allowing players to reconnect with their memories. That is one type of toy.

Then there is the other classification of toy that effects the world around the player and thus other players. Those are the type of toys that I dislike, and there are a few that I do actually hate because they make my player experience less fun. I have zero control over them and their ability to affect my environment and that bothers me.

I have a genuine reason for disliking the ones listed in this post each and will be explaining why, just as I’ll be doing for the ones I like. Read on to find out more.

I absolutely love three in a row and was a massive fan of the original bejewelled back in the day.  I had to close item down pretty quick when I was taking screenshots for this post because the temptation was real 😀 It’s a fun way to while away the time while you’re waiting for something.

Dislike: Toy Train Set

Countdown to Shadowlands Day 27 - Three World of Warcraft Toys that I enjoy & three that I despise: Toy Train Set

I know I’m not the only one who hates item because Blizzard actually implemented another toy (item) designed specifically to BREAK IT. And people rejoiced when it was announced.

The Toy Train set is annoying due to the choo choo chitter chitter sounds it makes over and over and over. It is a toy for people who love to annoy people, pure and simple. For someone with noise sensitivity due to a health condition, it moves past annoying into painful. It can trigger a migraine in me. Most of the time I have to play with my sound off anyway, and this only becomes an issue when I’m camping a rare. I have my sound on to notify me when a rare comes up. It was extremely difficult during the Shadowlands pre-launch event because I’d use my item to break one and someone would put another one down. The wrecker has a 30 min cooldown :-/

The  item does something so simple and so wonderful; it turns everyone into a corgi! They even bark when you interact with them 😀 It is the cutest most amazing thing and when I first got this toy I just kept giggling in complete amusement and sheer happiness. This is what World of Warcraft toys are all about at their best.

Another toy that got quite irritating during the recent pre-launch events in Icecrown was item. It is one of those toys that affects you whether you interact with it or not. I didn’t know which toy this was and had to google it to find out. When I did I came across several topics on the US WoW forum calling for the drunk blur effect to have an opt-out option. One was from a player recovering from alcohol addiction and another was a player suffering from chronic headaches

Despite being a chronic migraine sufferer this one isn’t about migraines, my reaction is based on a much more basic instinct; losing my vision. My eyesight is very poor, I have a -20 -20 eye prescription and when the blur effect suddenly hits my screen without warning it sends a very sudden shock to my brain. It’s extremely jarring. That blurriness is what it’s like without my glasses on and video give me a safe environment where I don’t need to worry about being disabled. My character’s eyesight is 20/20. Having it ripped away because someone has decided to play with a toy isn’t fun, it’s horrible.

The item lets players rewatch any cinematic from Legion and I love this idea. It’s also fantastic for me as someone who runs a blog and a screenshot gallery. It means I can open the toy and pick the cinematic to screenshot any time I need it. So useful! I wish that we had one for each expansion.

Dislike: Rainbow Generator

Remember when I mentioned migraines? The item sounds cute and happy. What it is, in reality, is a blinding ray of light that goes across my screen and induces a migraine. I’m quite disappointed that it does because I like rainbows! I want to be able to look at this toy, to use this toy, and have fun. It’s just too bright. I’ve just started trying the new photosensitivity option under so we’ll see if that makes a difference to my experience.

Over to You

I found it much harder to narrow it down to three I liked than I expected! There were also fewer toys that I despise as well. I can think of another one, possibly two, and that is it. If Blizzard added in an opt-out option for effects I would be much happier.

How about you; do you have a favourite toy?

We’re getting to the last few days of the challenge now and next up tomorrow is ‘tier.’ I’m going to be giving my thoughts on the first raid set from Shadowlands‘ initial raid Castle Nathria! Join me tomorrow for some transmog chatter 🙂

What will day 30 be?!

Day 30 is a freebie and my choice of topic, however, I can’t decide! I need your help narrowing down my options so I’m putting my four options up for a vote in polls over on Twitter.

Last week’s winner with a unanimous 5 votes against 0 was ‘my favourite WoW books and comics’. The final poll is now up and it is up against the winner from week one which was ‘Shadowlands Glow-Up appearances’.

Only you can decide which one of these themes I end up talking about for my final topic. So head on over to Twitter and cast your vote now!
