Sorry for the delay in getting today’s Seriously Geeky Sunday’s post up today folks. I’ve been taking the week off from blog work for some self-care and had left myself a few days to get this post done. Then an epic migraine of doom happened. I’m pretty sure I’ve got a sinus infection too and that’s what has been behind all the headaches too. Lots of fun, anyway, let’s concentrate on something much more interesting…

Antarctica is one of the continents we need to visit for our Around the World in 8 Sundays, and it’s also a pain in the butt to write about! It seemed to be that the best time to talk about all things cold and icy would be when it seems almost magical; as the holidays draw closer. So join me as we delve into an Antarctica/Winter Wonderland pop culture themed mish-mash!

How to join in the fun!

Anyone can join in with the prompt! Just read below to find out more 🙂

  1. is a blog prompt and is designed to be completed on a blog or in a vlog. If you don’t have one then join in the fun by posting your answers in the comments each week! 🙂

  4. When promoting your posts to social media please use the hashtags #seriouslygeekysundays and/or #sgsun6 so others can find your posts.
  5. Please try to remember to use spoiler tags/warnings for brand new shows and movies.
  6. The whole point of is to have fun by expressing our geekiness and sharing it with each other. Sometimes people will say things you don’t agree with and that’s ok. The world would be a really dull place if we all acted the same way.

My answers for week #36

What is your favourite winter themed fandom?

It was so long ago that I read this that it took me a moment to think of it; The Snow-Walker by Catherine Fisher.

Since Gudrun came from the frozen mists beyond the edge of the world, the Jarl’s people have obeyed her in hatred andterror. But the enchantress has one weakness: a son, Kari, banished to a forbidding fortress in the north, never seen by the Jarl’s people. In secret they wonder: Are the rumors true? Was he born a monster?

Now Jessa and her cousin Thorkil have been exiled to the north, and if they survive the journey, they will find the truth: Is Kari a beast? Or the means to stop the sorceress?

I fell in love with the story and the of this book (originally published as a trilogy of smaller novels). It’s for a younger audience, however, as with all of Fisher’s novels it’s written like an epic fantasy novel for adults. It has everything you’d expect in one; mystery, suspect, plot twists, and engaging characters.

Which ice/winter character do you like the most?

Oh, look, a DC character! Everyone is so surprised 😀 Although I’ve chosen an image of Killer Frost (or just ‘Frost’ now) from The Flash, I’m actually a fan of both her TV and her DC Comics version. The problem is that she doesn’t feature that often in the comics (unfortunately) whereas she’s a regular on The Flash.

In Season 6 Frost’s sassy nature and one-liners made for some of the best moments for me. I wasn’t a huge fan of that season, and while it wasn’t anyone’s fault (pandemic and all that), I really did look forward to seeing Frost on-screen and her character development was fantastic. I love Caitlin as a character, but this season I only had eyes for Frost.

What is your favourite Christmas themed moment in a fandom?

The Ho Ho Ho Job from Season 3 of Leverage is my favourite Character themed moment. I talked about Christmas episodes four years ago and this was one of them. The fact that it’s still the first one I think of says a lot about it! It was just so much fun as an episode, and Will Wheaton pops back up as his character which is always good. Plus tough guy Elliott Spencer in a Santa suit taking Christmas wishes from children 😀 It’s something that has to be seen!

There have been many incarnations of Santa over the years; which has been your favourite?

Last year Netflix released the movie Klaus and I fell in love with the version of Santa Claus represented in the movie. In this version of the tale, he’s a simple toymaker who is convinced by the new postman in town (who has his own plans, naturally) to make toys for the children. It ends up blowing up way bigger than either of them expected and a legend was born. If you’re looking for a feel-good movie this year then I highly recommend it.

Which winter themed creature is your favourite?

Most people associated giant armoured polar bears with a certain writer, but for me, they’ll always be for Guild Wars 2. The Kodan are my favourite winter-themed creature and they’re a warrior race of polar bears that are very spiritual.

If you could move to any snowy fictional place, which one would it be?

Nope. Nope. No. No way. I wrote this question and didn’t actually realise I had no answer for it! Ha. I hate snow, I hate ice. There is no fictional snowy place that despite its or magic that could make me forget how horribly lethal either of them is. I’d visit them but never moved permanently to one.

Over To You

I hope everyone enjoyed our little trip to Antarctica this week! Did it help anyone get into the holiday spirit a bit more? I’m beginning to sway towards it a bit more that’s for sure! It always takes me a while to get there and then once I’m in, I’m in it fully!

Next week, I get a week off. Woot! 😀 It’s Seriously Geeky Santa for our participants and a free catch up week for everyone else. I’ll be posting as usual, but it will be with links to those taking part in the Secret Santa. You’ll get to see what questions their Santa’s have come up with and how they’ve answered 😀 I can tell you now, it is going to be some seriously good fun so don’t miss it!
