Seriously Geeky Sundays April Edition

A year ago I would never have imagined that I would be sitting here writing the second year of prompts for the April edition. Thank you to everyone who has participated, and supported this little venture of mine. Especially to Megan and Winst0lf for their ongoing support and love when things got rough <3

We’re starting off the month with some celebration and reflection on the year past, looking back at the first year of prompts. Then we’re heading onto new pastures with words and language, and superheroes! I’m also introducing a new once a month format called Six on a Sunday which is in the spirit of geeky memes that are no longer running, for those who miss that type of meme in their blogging schedule. It also gives regular participants a more relaxing and less structured week, myself included, where we can just think up six things based on a simpler theme. To get us started the theme is ‘current loves’ and I’m looking forward to seeing how people respond to it!

I also have a poll currently going on my Twitter for people who have not taken part in before. It’s to help me understand whether it would be better to move Seriously Geeky Sundays to an alternate day (most likely Saturday) and/or make other changes to make SGS the best that it can be. Please pop along to the poll below and vote, it would be much appreciated <3

About

Taking place every Sunday there are six questions for bloggers to answer. You can pop over to the Seriously Geeky Sundays page for more information and see the themes for the next four months. You can take part every week or just pop in when a week catches your fancy. Every week I post my own answers and include a link-up for you to pop your own link in so others can check them out your post too.

If you’re not able to take part on a Sunday then you’re welcome to post under the alternative title of ‘Seriously Geeky Series’ anytime during the week so you don’t miss out! Check out the new FAQ for more details.

Please Note – The word fandom is used in questions as shorthand for ‘book/TV show/movie/video game/etc.’ Please feel free to replace ‘fandom’ with whatever term or media that works best for you.

Seriously Geeky Sundays April 2021 Themes - Join me for the Seriously Geeky Sundays April edition as SGS celebrates its 1st birthday, we look at words and language in fandoms, and talk about superheroes!

April’s Questions

Here are this month’s questions.

4th April – Happy First SGS!

One year ago was launched and this week we’re celebrating our first by looking back over the last year of prompts.

  • What was your favourite theme?
  • What theme did you like the least?
  • What question made you think the most?
  • Which theme reminded you of something you’d forgotten?
  • What do you enjoy most about Seriously Geeky Sundays?
  • What themes or subjects would you like to see come up this year?

11th April – Words maketh the fandom

There are so many word and language-related events in April that this theme was begging to happen. In two days time on the 13th it’s National Scrabble day, on the 23rd it’s the bard himself’s and rounding out the end of the month is the day morse code was discovered.

  • What is your favourite fictional language?
  • Language doesn’t always come in the form of words, as with morse code. What’s the most unconventional fictional language system you know?
  • Do you ever find yourself picking up words from fandoms and using them?
  • What’s the best fictional curse word you’ve ever come across?
  • What about poems and songs in fandoms?
  • What fandom quote is the first that always comes to mind?

18th April – Six on a Sunday: Current Loves

Starting new this year one week a month will just have a theme and no questions. It’s in the spirit of memes that are no longer active and to give us all a relaxing week once a month. The theme can be answered any way you wish and there is no right or wrong answer. If the subject was ‘science fiction movies’ you could discuss your favourites or the upcoming movies you’re looking forward to. As long as there are six of them you’re good!

This week’s theme is current loves!

25th April –

It’s superhero day on April 28th and we’re well overdue for a theme dedicated to superheroes. Don your capes, check your utility belts and grab your sidekicks as we head into the world of this week.

  • Who are your favourite superheroes?
  • Do you have a favourite sidekick?
  • Who is the most underrated superhero in your eyes?
  • Marvel, DC or another superhero franchise?
  • Who is the scariest supervillain of all time?
  • What is your favourite superhero movie and/or TV show?
