Young Safiya and Iseult have a habit of finding trouble. After clashing with a powerful Guildmaster and his ruthless Bloodwitch bodyguard, the friends are forced to flee their home. Safi must avoid capture at all costs as she's a rare Truthwitch, able to discern truth from lies. Many would kill for her magic, so Safi must keep it hidden – lest she be used in the struggle between empires. And Iseult's true powers are hidden even from herself. In a chance encounter at Court, Safi meets Prince Merik and makes him a reluctant ally. However, his help may not slow down the Bloodwitch now hot on the girls' heels. All Safi and Iseult want is their freedom, but danger lies ahead. With war coming, treaties breaking and a magical contagion sweeping the land, the friends will have to fight emperors and mercenaries alike. For some will stop at nothing to get their hands on a Truthwitch.

Truthwitch has been on my TBR for a very long time, and I’ve just been stuck waiting for it to become available for me to read. I won book two, Windwitch (review here), in a competition several years ago and didn’t realise at the time that I’d entered a competition for book two. Since then I’ve been impatiently waiting for book one and trying to get one of my local libraries to add it to their e-book library. It finally happened and I snapped it up as soon as I got the chance.

Some books have a reputation for being good and then they don’t always live up to the expectations built by other people’s standards. I’m happy to report that Truthwitch is as good as I’d heard. I instantly fell in with the headstrong Safi and cautious Iseult, and all of the other we meet along the way. Every single one is full of life and three dimensional, and the worldbuilding of the series is phenomenal. It’s such a treat to read!
