Four months since Rhy was wounded and the Dane twins fell, and the stone was cast with Holland's dying body through the rift, and into Black London. In many ways, things have almost returned to normal, though Rhy is more sober, and Kell is now plagued by his guilt. I was very impressed with A Darker Shade of Magic and hoped that book two would continue on the same level. What I didn’t expect was for it to blow it completely out of the water. What do you do when a book is already 5 stars and the one is even better? It’s like GCSEs where you have A and then A*. Well, considering this is 5 star +!

It did take a little while to get there for me though because the place where the book starts wasn’t really that interesting to me, and it took me a while to warm up to those characters. Eventually though when everything worked back everyone ended up back in for the Element Games I was fully engaged. So many twists and turns! I found myself constantly on the edge of my seat, biting fingernails and at some points wanting to hide under my duvet.
